What This Site Is All About

In May, 2008, an ad hoc advisory committee presented a report to the town board recommending that the town employ a professional town administrator. The board thanked the committee for its work, praised the report, and with minimum discussion, rejected its recommendation. Simply put, the board's general view was that "if it isn't broken, then why fix it."

Some Yorktown residents see things differently. We see cracks in Yorktown's day-to-day operations. Cracks that have cost taxpayers more than $1.4 million in unnecessary money. Cracks that could have been avoided had an experienced administrator been on hand to alert the board to potential problems. With all due respect to the five members of the current town board, we believe that it's time to take a fresh look at our 200 year-old system of town government.

We also believe that the decision whether or not Yorktown should employ a town administrator should be decided by the voters after they've had an opportunity to learn more about the idea. Which is why we've formed the Committee for a Yorktown Town Administrator, set up this web site, and will be encouraging an informed community-wide dialogue on the issue leading up to the November, 2009 town election.

We welcome your feedback and invite your questions.
